  • Wastewater Treatment
  • 63.0 MGD

The plant has grown from 5 MGD capacity in 1940 to its present-day 63.0 MGD. It serves an estimated population of approximately 450,000 from Baltimore City, as well as Baltimore, Howard, and Anne Arundel counties. Wastewater treatment consists of grit removal, screening out large solid materials, and removal of suspended and dissolved materials. These processes remove almost all of the pollutants that enter the treatment facility and return it to the environment without detrimental effects to the aquatic life of the Patapsco River and the Chesapeake Bay.
